Online learning from AHCA/NCAL

During this time of social distancing and lack of in-person education events, IHCA members still have access to a wealth of online education through AHCA/NCAL. Online courses feature live and pre-recorded events, toolkits and resources, covering a wide range of timely topics. CEUs are also available, depending on the course.

  • Academic PlatformsWell-trained CNAs are needed now more than ever. This blended online CNA training program features online classes coupled with in-person, clinical labs. Students can continue working while taking the class, as they have the ability to access the class online and do the clinical lab portion while in the facility. Facilities that do not already have a CNA training program should take advantage of this great platform.
  • 2020 PDPM Academy AHCA’s subscription-based 2020 Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) Academy provides members with in-depth online education and training on best practice topics and operational capacities key to PDPM success. The course includes pre-recorded webinars with CEUs, AHCA-developed guidance, toolkits and other resources. It also includes live open discussion forums addressing challenging PDPM clinical and billing topics and CMS updates. The subscription also offers access to AHCA’s library of 2019 and 2020 PDPM Academy materials.
  • AHCA/NCAL Webinars These webinars are free to all IHCA and ICAL members and cover topics such as behavioral health and trauma-informed care, arbitration, Medicare Advantage, protecting residents from financial exploitation, Medicaid financing and more.
  • ICD-10 Training (Coders and Non-Coders) AHCA offers a ICD-10 training for staff members with differing roles and knowledge levels. There are full length coding and documentation courses, including a 16-hour course for coders and a four-hour course for those in non-coding roles. There are also courses on coding updates and expanded case examples, including a two-and-a-half-hour course for coders and a two-hour course for those in non-coding roles.
  • Understanding SNF Value-based Purchasing This course contains six modules that provide an in-depth description of each feature of the CMS Skilled Nursing Facility Value Based Purchasing (SNF VBP) program along with helpful tools, documents and primary source references to the program. This course covers how CMS calculates rehospitalization rates, including risk adjustments, as well as a facility’s performance score and the resulting incentive payment multiplier, which is used to adjust a facility’s Part A payments.
  • Pioneering Solutions to the Workforce Crisis This course includes a 45- minuted recorded webinar, multiple resources and a case study that will explore the demographics influencing the availability of workers, discuss threats stemming from other service sectors and share a range of innovative practices that lead to significant improvements in recruitment and retention.
  • Infection Preventionist Specialized TrainingThrough this infection prevention and control program (IPCO) course, individuals will be specially trained to effectively implement and manage an IPCO program at their SNF or assisted living (AL) community. The course is an online, self-study program with 23 hours of training. It includes online lectures, case studies and interactive components taught by an array of experts from around the country.
  • How to Use LTC Trend Tracker: SNFs and AL programs – This series of videos will demonstrate how to use LTC Trend Tracker as a quality improvement tool. Participants will learn how to utilize and customize the dashboard, select benchmark groups to best demonstrate facility strengths and understand the measures and how to upload data.
  • Life Safety Fire and Smoke Door Inspection TrainingThis training includes a PowerPoint presentation providing the necessary information to inspect doors for safety, as well as a quiz to demonstrate competency in this area.
  • Driving Quality by Operationalizing Business Systems – This course, created by experts who use business systems to drive quality, is designed to assist organizations in advancing efforts to improve quality by operationalizing their key business systems such as Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and Baldrige. It includes short videos, case studies and worksheets.
  • Falls Management and PreventionThis course includes eight one-hour workshops hosted by experts from around the nation and provides a wide array of insights into protecting residents from falls. The series provides great ideas and useful strategies related to sleep, environment, QAPI, workplace practices, regulatory issues, and family and leadership practices. The recorded sessions build upon each other and provide opportunity for centers to view the sessions over and over and share them with staff on different shifts.
  • Water Management Training – This course provides long-term care staff with information on what a water management plan is, the essential elements of an effective plan and how SNFs and ALs should develop and maintain comprehensive water management programs. The online one-hour training contains five modules and is designed for administrators, building engineers and maintenance department personnel, directors of nursing who have not been trained as infection preventionists, and other staff responsible for building operations or infection prevention and control.
