Member Spotlight: Hajrija (Heidi) Sky of Longhouse-Northshire

December 9, 2019

After seeing how her mother-in-law made an impact by working in long-term care, Hajrija (Heidi) Sky knew she wanted to make a career out of caring for others. As a CNA at Longhouse-Northshire in Spencer, Heidi’s favorite part of her job is serving the residents.

How did you get started in the long-term care profession?
After working in so many factories, it was time for a change. My mother-in-law worked in long-term care and talked to me about it. I saw how much she does and that’s how I got started.

What do you like most about working in long-term care?
Taking care of all my residents is what I love to do most when working in long-term care.

What would you tell others to encourage them to consider a career in long-term care?
Whoever is willing to make long-term care a career will find that working with the elderly is amazing.

What lessons have you learned working in long-term care that also help you outside of work?
Always respect your elders and be kind to everyone because one day it could be your family member that needs long-term care.

When you’re not at work, what do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my family – we do a lot together.

What is your favorite quote and why?
“Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” This quote is my favorite due to my past relationships in life.
