Board Election Bio – Tom Swanson

Tom began his long-term care career in Sioux City in 1988, running a privately owned 50-bed facility. A year later, he transferred to a 64-bed facility in Mapleton, where he continues in his capacity as administrator. During his thirty years with Maple Heights in Mapleton, he expanded the facility to 72 SNF/NF beds, four helpful living units, and twelve independent living units. He has added a separate Home Health Agency. In addition to expanding Mapleton’s facilities and services, he assisted the community of Marcus in opening a new non-profit skilled nursing/assisted living facility. He continues to provide all administrative and financial applications for Marcus Nursing Home.

Tom’s involvement in IHCA began at the committee level with the Workforce Development and Community Public Affairs committees. He later increased his involvement at the district level, serving the Northwest District as secretary, vice president, district director, and president. In addition, he was past co-chair of the Public Relations Committee which he continues to serve, as well as serving on the Convention Education Committee.  He has served as the Chair of IHCA for 2 years.  He recently completed his third year serving as Exec. Chair for the IHCA Executive Committee.
