Building Hands-On Caregiving Skills for Dementia: Using What Remains to Provide Best Quality Care
The first webinar in the series will help participants understand effective strategies for helping people with dementia during personal care, reducing resistance to care and develop better observational skills to recognize and intervene effectively when behavioral challenges occur. It will emphasize the value of matching helping behaviors to the person’s needs and retained abilities to promote a sense of control and self-direction. Grading and providing helping behaviors based on the person’s abilities and needs refines the caregiver’s skills and fosters positive interactions during care activities rather than struggles. Additionally, helping care providers recognize the difference between progression of dementia and signs and symptoms of illness or pain promotes best care practices and reduces risks for hospitalizations and catastrophic events for all involved.

Strategies for Challenging Dementia Behaviors
Teepa’s second webinar is designed to provide care partners with tools to identify and explore SIX factors in ‘behaviors’ of people living with dementia. Participants will learn how to use their observations and skill to use retained abilities and talents to make the best of what is, to address concerns and challenges, and to fill each day with meaning and purpose for everyone involved.
