Speaker: Ken Watkins, Attorney, Davis, Brown Law Firm
This session will review landlord laws and the tenant’s Bill of Rights, plus it will outline types of advance directives including living wills, power of attorney, durable power of attorney and health care power of attorney. There will also be a discussion on the best ways to approach negotiated risk agreements in an assisted living community.

When you combine baby boomers that need regular care such as memory care, and the baby boomers that choose to live in independent living facilities to simplify their lifestyle, there is a mountain of possibilities. Competition will be fierce as more and more Continuing Care Retirement Communities open to meet the demand, however with sound assisted living marketing tools and procedures in place, your facility can lead the way. This session explores the issues of high tenant turnover, market proliferation and saturation, as well as “affordability” and gives managers valuable insight into the science of marketing and developing a marketing plan for today.

12:30 p.m. Practical Approaches to Improving Quality in Assisted Living
Speaker: Lisa Uhlenkamp, Nurse Consultant, Assisted Living Partners
All assisted living communities should develop and implement a quality program that best serves the needs of the community’s residents, families, staff, individual community, and the profession. While there is significant variability in the services provided in assisted living communities, there is a core set of performance measures that have the potential for broad application. This session will explore the performance measures currently being applied in A.L. and what quality improvement processes can assist in achieving desired goals.
2:15 p.m. Assisted Living Regulatory and Survey Update
Speaker: Stacy Hejda, Vice President, Assisted Living Partners
This session will review regulatory compliance changes that were implemented in 2017 and discuss the recent trends in insufficiency citing’s by DIA. Stacy will also cover the best practices and resources for instituting pro-active strategies to meet and exceed state standards on the issues discussed to assure continuous compliance and high standards of care.
