Program Description

IHCA's Nutritional / Feeding Assistant Train-the-Trainer Program will help nursing facilities meet the federal and state requirements for state-approved trained feeding assistants. This program will train and provide certification in feeding assistant training for Registered Nurses from long term care facilities. Upon completion, the RNs will be state-certified to train feeding assistants at their facilities.

The Nutritional / Feeding Assistant Train-the-Trainer Program will help attendees plan feeding assistant training at their facilities and cover all federal and state rules and guidelines and other information necessary for their facilities to conduct on-site feeding assistant training based on AHCA's training program.

Attendees will receive a copy of AHCA's Assisted Dining: The Role and Skills of Feeding Assistants.

Purpose:
To prepare and certify Registered Nurses to teach IHCA's state-approved training program for feeding assistants.

Objectives:
1. Understand federal and state rules and guidelines for feeding assistants.
2. Review adult learning techniques and different training methods.
3. Review AHCA assisted dining training program and how to order training materials.
4. Identify program guidelines for obtaining class approval and completion certificates for facility staff members completing the feeding assistant training.

This course has been approved by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals
