Inappropriate social media conduct can lead to tomorrow’s headlines. That’s why it is so important for health care assistants to understand the new changes and how they relate to enforcement of HIPAA for both facilities and staff. This session will go into great detail regarding the use of technology and social media and how it relates to the HIPAA Security Rule, in particular with portable devices. Areas covered will be texting, email, encryption, medical messaging, voice data and risk factors as they relate to IT.

Back injuries and other musculoskeletal disorders are rampant in the healthcare industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurses' aides, health aides, radiology technologists and therapists make up four of the top 10 professionals at the greatest risk for back injury. During this presentation attendees will learn how to identify patient-handling hazards, understand basic rules for safe patient lifts and transfers, learn the proper use of mechanical lifting and transferring equipment to avoid back injuries, prepare properly for patient lifts and transfers, and use safe techniques in a variety of patient life and transfer situations.

What is it that makes people want to stay in a healthcare job? Why do some employees look forward to their workday while others just show up because they have to? How is it that some employees can effectively help others and their organization while also achieving personal success and happiness for themselves? Through my interviews and research, I discovered that success is not random. In fact, my research has indicated that successful healthcare professionals all use a specific set of “key” skills, techniques, and tools on a daily basis. This fun informative session will show health care assistants how to put these “keys” to practice which will open the door to personal success and happiness.
