HEALTH CARE REFORM UPDATE

CEUs for Nurses, Administrators, Assisted Living Management, Social Services

Get the latest on the Health Care Reform legislation and how it will impact your facility? This session will review the current state of the federal legislation and discuss issues such as: mandated employee insurance; how it will affect you as an employer and provider; Medicare restructuring; fraud and abuse issues and much more. Please join us for this session as we explore the current state of the legislation and what the future might hold.

The second part of this session will provide attendees with an overview of legal representatives and advanced directives plus outlines living wills, powers of attorney, durable powers of attorney and general powers of attorney.

Speaker Bio: Kelly Verwers Meyers is the Director of Regulatory Affairs at Iowa Health Care Association. Kelly is a licensed attorney in the State of Iowa who represents IHCA on Capitol Hill and monitors proposed rules and advances the Association’s position on proposed legislation. Kelly is a Drake University Law graduate and has practiced in a private law firm as well as served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Warren County Attorney's Office.


WORKING WITH ALZHEIMER'S CLIENTS

CEUs for Nurses, Activities, Dietary, Administrators, Assisted Living Management, Department Heads, Social Services. Direct Care Workers are also invited to attend this session.

This session is designed to provide long term care staff with up-to-date information on Alzheimer's type dementia and the unique care and communication needs for those with the disease. Key concepts of dementia care services will be covered including: assessment, service plans, ongoing care and programming, staff qualifications, communication, working with families, education and the environment.

Speaker Bio:  Sarah Brune, RN, BSN, Patient Care Manager for Iowa Hospice’s Waterloo office. Sarah has over 10 year experience in long term care nursing. She is a staff trainer for Iowa Hospice and has extensive experience with quality improvement, wound care, and dementia care. She completed her End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) in 2009.
