Cindy Baddeloo, Deputy Director IHCA ICAL, assists the Executive Director with all aspects of managing the Association. She is responsible to the ICAL Board of Directors and is the spokesperson for ICAL. She staffs the Workforce Committee and the Iowa Health Foundation. She handles issues related to long term care workforce and serves on Iowa’s Health Information Technology Summit planning committee and the Iowa Council of Nurses.
Stacy Hejda is a Consultant for Assisted Living Partners, L.L.C. She serves on the Quality Committee, Co-chairs the Payment for Services Committee, and is Director at Large for the Iowa Center for Assisted Living. Stacy provides consulting services to assisted living facilities focusing on program development and regulatory compliance monitoring as well as working with the Elderly Waiver and HUD rental assistance programs. Stacy received her Assisted Living Management certification in the spring of 2002.
Cindy Kramer, RN, has worked with geriatric residents for over twenty years. She has provided consulting services to long term care facilities for the past 17 years and has expanded those services to assisted living programs the last two years. Prior to her geriatric career, she was a hospital cardiac nurse. She currently serves on IHCA Survey Results Committee and the ICAL Quality Committee.
Kelly Verwers Meyers, JD, Director of Regulatory Affairs for IHCA ICAL, is our members’ key resource for information on Iowa’s long term care rules and regulations, the Iowa Code. Representing IHCA on Capital Hill, Kelly monitors proposed rules and advances the Association’s position on proposed legislation by attending hearings and submitting comments. She works closely with the IHCA Medicare Committee, and the Nursing Facility Survey Results and Life Safety Task Force sub-committees.
Ariel Pleva, BA, MPH is an epidemiologist and community health consultant at the Iowa Department of Public Health, Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology. In her current position she assists with influenza surveillance; outbreak managements and investigation; and intervention strategies.
Mary Rexroat, R.N., BS is a Nurse Epidemiologist at the Iowa Department of Public Health, Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology. In her current position she assists with disease surveillance, outbreak management and facilitating appropriate interventions by the local health departments. She also provides consultation for hospitals and long term care facilities on infection prevention and control questions.
Marianne Smith is an advanced practice geropsychiatric nurse and an assistant professor at the University of Iowa, College of Nursing. She conducts research on depression and depression-related symptoms among older adults who reside in long-term care and assisted living facilities. Dr. Smith has over 20 years experience in geriatric behavioral health care, much of which has focused on educational endeavors aimed at changing mental health care of elders.
Jeffrey Steggerda is a Reimbursement Consultant and President of Brighton Consulting Group. Jeff has worked in the long term care profession since 1986. He began working with IHCA in 1993 as a Reimbursement Consultant. His roles for IHCA have included creating and maintaining several informational databases to support the quality, finance, and data objectives of the association. Jeff is a CPA, receiving a BBA degree. His career path includes public accounting and positions as Director of Accounting with regional long term care companies.
Gwen Suntken, RN, BC, RAC-MT, C-NE, MS, is a Nurse Consultant and Long Term Care Educator for LTC Resources. Gwen earned her BSN from the University of Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Health care Administration from California College of Health Sciences. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, is certified in Gerontological Nursing, has earned a Gerontology Certificate from Penn State University, is a Master Trainer for the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators, and is a Master Trainer for Certified Nurse Executives.
Christine Timmons, RD LD, is a registered dietitian at Martin Bros. Distributing where she is the Menu Development Manager. She also provides customer support to healthcare facilities and writes a monthly health care newsletter, the “Hungry Mind”. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Institution Management. Prior to joining the nutrition services team at Martin Bros. Chris was a consultant to long term care facilities as well as a corporate dietitian for a large healthcare chain.
Lisa Uhlenkamp, RN, LNHA, Director of Quality & Clinical Services IHCA ICAL works closely with the IHCA and ICAL Quality committees. She is responsible for issues related to quality improvement, advancing excellence, clinical practice issues in all long term care settings, Care Watch, and the home and community based waivers. She staffs both the IHCA and ICAL quality committees, the Iowa Nurses for Long Term Care. She is our trainer for Care Watch and other clinical areas.
Diana Waugh brings both formal education and years of practical nursing experience to her audience. She has served on faculties in all types of nursing programs; managed a regional rehabilitation program; served as a DON, worked as a long term care consultant for over 19 years; and even learned how to write and produce television commercials. In each endeavor, teamwork has been the key to her success. Her belief in teamwork influences her approach to every topic she addresses.
Jim Wilkes is the Director of Processing Services for the Brighton Consulting Group. Jim has more than 14 years experience managing and consulting skilled nursing facilities on all aspects of financial and human resource recordkeeping. He has led more than 60 Iowa nursing facilities through the Medicare certification, claims, and cost report cycles since 1995 and provides valuable leadership to independently controlled organizations across Iowa. Jim is a 1991 graduate of Central College in Pella.
